HYANNIS, Mass., May 13 (UPI) -- A man was charged with trying to rob a Massachusetts church with a fake gun after members of the congregation overpowered him during a service, police said.

Clyde Bridges, 45, was arrested at the Hyannis Foursquare Portuguese Church Sunday evening, The Boston Globe reported.

Lucas Vieira, son of the pastor, said he was in the back of the church when saw a masked man talking to a member of the congregation and displaying what looked like a handgun. He said that he tackled the man outside the door to keep him out of the church and several church members came out and helped him.

The gun turned out to be a cigarette lighter in the shape of a handgun.

Bridges was also charged with robbing a pizza delivery man last week.

Bail was set at $200,000 at a hearing Monday in Barnstable.
