JERUSALEM, May 12 (UPI) -- A poll published Monday indicates that 59 percent of Israelis believe Prime Minister Ehud Olmert should resign because of a bribery scandal.

The survey conducted by Yedioth Ahronoth and the Dahaf Institute found that only 22 percent of respondents believe Olmert when he denied accepting a bribe, ynetnews.com reports.

Sixty percent say Olmert is incapable of leading Israel because of the bribery investigation, the polling revealed.

Only one-third of those polled felt Olmert should remain in office.

As for Olmert's Kadima Party, the poll found that it would defeat Likud in Knesset elections if Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni were at the helm.

The poll by Ahronoth and Daraf consisted of a representative sample of 500 civilians with an error rate of 4.5 percent.
