LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif., May 12 (UPI) -- More than 30 skateboarding moms gathered at a California skateboard park this year to ring in Mother's Day at the Mighty Mama Skate-O-Rama.

Barb Odanaka, 45, the mom who came up with the idea for the event at the Laguna Niguel Skatepark, said it was a time for mothers to have a good time, not compete against one another, The Orange County (Calif.) Register reported Sunday.

Odanaka added that the skating mamas prefer the gathering not be called a "social event."

"A social event is brunch. Some of our moms have woken up in the hospital," Odanaka said.

She said she began the Skate-O-Rama in hopes of finding some companionship with other mothers.

"I was tired of being the only mom at a skateboard park on Mother's Day," she said.
