ORLANDO, Fla., May 12 (UPI) -- A Florida man has been sent to death row after being found guilty of killing his girlfriend by setting her on fire, officials said.

Dane Abdool, 21, was convicted of pouring gasoline on Amelia Sookdeo, 17, and setting fire to her body in February 2006, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported.

The jury then recommended to Orange Circuit Court Judge Lisa Munyon that Abdool be given the death sentence.

A 12-member jury found Abdool guilty of first-degree murder in December and decided 10-2 Sunday he should be executed, the Sentinel reported.

The Department of Corrections said Abdool will be among the youngest people to be on death row.
