BAGHDAD, May 8 (UPI) -- U.S.-led coalition forces killed nine enemy fighters in Iraq Thursday and detained 13 in a nationwide operation against al-Qaida, officials said.
The American Forces Press Service said the coalition detained an al-Qaida suspect north of Baghdad, along with a second man, detained a suspected terrorist 60 miles west of Baghdad and detained 10 more terror suspects in northwestern Iraq.
The report said coalition forces also used Hellfire missiles to kill nine suspects in New Baghdad, an administrative district of the capital.
Yet another suspect was killed in Kadhamiyah when the roadside bomb he was deploying detonated, the report said.
In Wednesday operations, coalition forces confiscated weapons, ammunition and money in a number of locations in Iraq.
