WASHINGTON, May 6 (UPI) -- Rep. Vito Fossella, R-N.Y., was bailed out by a female friend after his drunken driving arrest last week in Virginia, the New York Daily News reported.
Fossella, who is married, met Laura Fay, a retired Air Force officer, when she was a White House military liaison, the newspaper said. Fay, a divorcee, has a 3-year-old son born after she separated from her husband.
Susan Del Percio, a Fossella spokeswoman, told the Daily News that asking about the paternity of Fay's son is a "demeaning and highly inappropriate question that does not deserve an answer."
Waiters at the Logan Tavern in Alexandria said that Fossella arrived there with a friend at about 10 p.m. Wednesday. Josh Hahn, a waiter, said both men had been drinking heavily before their arrival and that the friend, named Brian, kept passing out.
The two were asked to leave after Brian passed out on a table, breaking its base, and staffers put them in a taxi.
Fossella was stopped by police in Alexandria, Va., shortly after midnight.
