SURREY, British Columbia, May 6 (UPI) -- An 11-year-old Canadian boy in southern British Columbia was recovering Tuesday after a pit bull attack in a playground.
The attack happened around 4:30 p.m. Sunday as Sean Bajwa's screams from a Surrey schoolyard alerted 20-year-old neighbor Jordan Slezak. He saw the boy on the ground covered in blood with one pit bull clamped on his arm and a second one circling. He called 911 and ran out barefoot with a baseball bat, he told The Province newspaper in Vancouver.
"The first swing I gave to the dog was pretty much like a golf swing to the head," Slezak said. However, the dog only looked up at him and didn't release its jaws, he said. "The second blow was two hands overhead, coming down on to the dog's head."
He then corralled the dogs into a fenced corner until police arrived, the report said.
Surrey SPCA manager Janice Levers said both dogs are being held while the attack is investigated.
The victim was sedated in stable condition Tuesday after a plastic surgeon sutured his face and limbs to minimize scarring, the report said.
