The prime minster said he was contacted by Israeli police last week regarding new vague allegations against him and that triggered rumors that spread throughout Israel, The Jerusalem Post reported.
"The investigators acted in a very reasonable and appropriate manner," Olmert said. "Unfortunately, a wave of rumors has washed over this country on the subject of the investigation, some of which are wicked and malicious."
"I promise that when all the things are clear … everything will be put in the correct proportion and the correct context, and it will end the rumors."
While Haaretz reported Olmert is determined not to let the investigation impede his regular routine, the Israeli official did cancel two Independence Day interviews. A spokesman for the prime minister said the decision to cancel was made because Olmert is under a gag-order as part of the police probe, the Post said.
