Clinton, Obama likely to compete till June

INDIANAPOLIS, May 4 (UPI) -- Democratic hopefuls Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama are both likely to stay in the U.S. presidential race until June, analysts say.

Unless Clinton or Obama take the Indiana or North Carolina primaries by a landslide Tuesday, both will probably continue in the race until the primary season ends June 3, the Los Angeles Times reported Sunday.

"As long as he wins where he's supposed to win, and she wins where she's supposed to win, the nature of the race is fundamentally unchanged," Democratic pollster Ben Tulchin told the Times.

Obama's promising lead in national polls died down when he lost key primaries to Clinton in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

Obama's longtime pastor, Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., reportedly made things harder for the Illinois senator with his harsh statements about racism at a National Press Club event.

Despite losses in key states and Wright's fiery statements, Obama is still a leading the way in elected delegates, making it a steep climb for Clinton get ahead, the Times said.
