Probation for steroid trafficker

SHERMAN, Texas, May 2 (UPI) -- A Texas man sentenced to three years probation Thursday for distributing steroids says he will help the NFL fight steroid abuse.

A judge also imposed a $25,000 fine on David Jacobs of Plano, The Dallas Morning News reported.

"I want to help them understand the loopholes, how I was able to help people beat the tests, and how prevalent steroid use is," Jacobs said after the sentencing hearing.

A spokesman for the National Football League said officials want to talk to Jacobs, who has claimed he sold steroids to Matt Lehr, a former Dallas Cowboy now with the New Orleans Saints, and other unnamed NFL players. Lehr denies knowing Jacobs.

Jacobs said he wants to work with high schools and student athletes to help them do without steroids.

"I just want to make things right," he said. "I got into this to help people, and I want to finish it helping people."

U.S. District Judge Richard Schell said prosecutors had guaranteed Jacobs cooperated with them in investigating steroids.
