Ryan Watson, 2, who lived in a mobile home community with his mother and 14-year-old brother, died Thursday after being hit by a Canadian National train, the Post-Tribune of Northwest Indiana newspaper reported Friday.
The boy died after receiving blunt force trauma injuries, the Lake County, Ind., coroner's office said.
Neighbor Duane Denisiuk said Watson's mother couldn't locate her son after going into her home for less than a minute.
"I looked on the other side of the trailer, where I thought he would be playing with the dog. Then I heard the train screech to a halt, and his grandfather screamed, 'Oh my god, no! It's my baby!'" Denisiuk told the Post-Tribune.
Denisiuk said he knew "there was nothing" he could have done at that point to save the child.
