List of Nazi war criminals released

JERUSALEM, April 30 (UPI) -- The Simon Wiesenthal Center Wednesday released its seventh annual report on Nazi war criminals, which details the 10 most wanted fugitives.

Among those in the Annual Status Report on the Worldwide Investigation and Prosecution of Nazi War Criminals is Alois Brunner, who was a key operative of Adolf Eichmann. He is believed to be living in Syria.

The Wiesenthal Center said he was responsible for the deportation of thousands of Jews from Austria, Greece, France and Slovakia to Nazi death camps.

Brunner, who has lived in Syria for decades and was last seen in 2001, was convicted in absentia by France.

Also on the list is Dr. Aribert Heim, who is wanted for killing hundreds by lethal injection in several Nazi death camps.

The Wiesenthal Center said he disappeared in 1962 prior to a planned prosecution. It added there is "strong evidence" he is still alive.

Dr. Sandor Kepiro, a Hungarian police officer who participated in the mass murder of more than 1,200 civilians in Novi Sad, Serbia, is also wanted.

Although Hungary has refused to implement his original sentence, Budapest has opened a new criminal investigation against him that has not yet been completed more than a year after its initiation.
