BOGOTA, April 30 (UPI) -- Authorities in Colombia have killed one of the country's most notorious reputed drug traffickers and paramilitary leaders, police officials said.

Miguel Angel Mejia Munera was killed during a shootout in northern Colombia Tuesday, El Tiempo reported online.

He was wanted in the United States on drug trafficking charges. A reward of $5 million was offered for the capture of him and his twin brother Victor.

Munera was reportedly a leader of a new generation of paramilitary leaders to emerge following the demobilization of the right-wing paramilitary group the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia.
