JERUSALEM, April 27 (UPI) -- Israel is mulling a proposal to allow Palestinians to open the Rafah crossing to allow the transport of supplies from Egypt to the Gaza Strip, officials said.
WAFA, the Palestinian news agency, reported Sunday that officials said opening the Rafah crossing would "ease pressure on Israeli-run crossings that have recently come under an increasing number of terror attacks."
The crossing has mostly been closed since Hamas took over the Gaza Strip in June.
Israel is considering opening it to truck traffic, but not to people, WAFA reported.
"This option exists and is being considered," an unnamed Israeli official told The Jerusalem Post. "While the attacks continue against the Israeli crossings, Rafah can serve as an alternative artery to provide for the people of Gaza."
