BAGHDAD, April 26 (UPI) -- Turkish forces this week targeted a Kurdish separatist group attempting to enter Turkey from northern Iraq, the Turkish military said Saturday.

Military officials said Turkish warplanes targeted outlawed PKK separatists in northern Iraq Friday and Saturday, Hurriyet reported.

"All planes returned to base safely after successfully executing their mission," a Turkish military statement said.

Ankara has a year-long pact with Iraqi officials, which expires in October, authorizing cross border operations.

The military said Turkish warplanes "hit and neutralized" the separatists, The New Anatolian reported.

The PKK, also known as Kadek and Kongra-Gel, is considered by the United States and the European Union to be a terrorist organization.
