WASHINGTON, April 24 (UPI) -- Senior party officials say congressional Democrats in Washington are reported pulling back on expectations for healthcare reform, a key campaign issue.

While their two presidential candidates, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., and Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., continue to make healthcare promises, senior party leaders are saying that even if Democrats control the White House and Congress, sweeping change will be difficult.

They say getting such sprawling legislation requires broad compromise from both parties and outside groups, The Hill, a Washington newspaper, reports.

"We all know there is not enough money to do all this stuff," says U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., a Finance Committee member and Obama supporter.

Many on Capitol Hill remember U.S. President George Bush's unsuccessful efforts regarding Social Security change and former President Bill Clinton's attempt to reform healthcare during his first term, The Hill said, and so are reticent to take on large reform plans.
