3rd trial for alleged Miami terror cell

MIAMI, April 24 (UPI) -- Federal prosecutors say they plan to try six men charged with terrorist conspiracy for a third time, even though juries deadlocked in two previous trials.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Batiste called the alleged ringleader, Narseal Batiste, a committed terrorist who wanted to "kill all the devils," the Miami Herald reported.

The group allegedly conspired with an informant posing as an al-Qaida member and planned to blow up the Sears Tower in Chicago and other landmarks. But they were not shown to possess any actual weapons or explosives.

The foreman of the jury in the second trial said he did not understand why the government would seek a third trial.

"I'm in disbelief they are going for a third trial," the foreman, who did not want his name used, told the Herald. "I'm afraid if they go for a third trial the jurors will hang or they will have the same issues

we did."

The first trial ended with one acquittal and jurors deadlocked on six defendants. The second ended in deadlock.
