SHELBYVILLE, Ind., April 20 (UPI) -- Shelbyville, Ind., has honored the world's certified oldest human, a city resident who turned 115 years old Sunday, officials say.
Shelbyville Mayor Scott Furgeson said Edna Parker's name will be featured throughout the town on signs reading "Home of Edna Parker, the world's oldest person," The Shelbyville (Ind.) News reported Saturday.
"It is a great honor to have Edna and her great family in Shelbyville," Furgeson said during Friday's celebration.
While Parker's official birthday was not until Sunday, Shelbyville residents gathered to recognize her accomplishment and the proud super centenarian even took time to downplay her record-setting age.
"Well, I don't think that I am quite that old," Parker told the assembled crowd.
The News said the party ended with the release of brown and blue balloons, one for each of Parker's record 115 years.
