INDIANAPOLIS, April 19 (UPI) -- Barack Obama is leading Hillary Clinton by 5 percentage points in Indiana in their battle for the Democratic presidential nomination, a poll indicates.
The results of the Mike Downs Center for Indiana Politics poll indicate the Illinois senator has built a slight lead on his colleague from New York in the Midwestern state, edging ahead of Clinton 50 percent to 45 percent, The Indianapolis Star reported Saturday.
The remaining 5 percent of those surveyed in the poll were undecided regarding the ongoing electoral race.
The poll's results indicated if Obama does win his party's presidential nomination, he would not fare well in a general election against presumptive Republican nominee, Sen. John McCain of Arizona.
The poll found that 51 percent of respondents supported McCain, while 44 percent supported Obama.
Similar results were found if Clinton were to capture the nomination. The poll's results indicated that McCain earned 53 percent of respondents' support compared to the 42 percent of respondents who backed Clinton.
The Star said the poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.2 percentage points.
