LONDON, April 19 (UPI) -- Eight former Guantanamo detainees plan to sue the British security services, claiming that MI5 and MI6 assisted in their illegal abduction.
Three of the group are foreign citizens living in Britain and the others are British citizens. The Daily Mail reported that they filed writs listing the "Security Services," "The Secret Intelligence Agency" and "The Attorney-General" as defendants.
The plaintiffs were arrested in Afghanistan and Pakistan. They say MI5 and MI6 knew they would be sent to Guantanamo and continued to work with U.S. agencies.
"It is actual involvement in some cases, in the process of interrogation, in the process of us being handed over. It is culpability by the British authorities in being involved in most of the process, their presence on every step of the journey before we got to Guantanamo," said Moazzam Begg, a British citizen released from Guantanamo in 2005.
The plaintiffs include the "Tipton Three," who sued U.S. agencies two years ago over alleged mistreatment at the base in Cuba. Their suit was dismissed by an appeals court and they are appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court.
