NEW YORK, April 16 (UPI) -- The real-life son of the head mobster played by Denzel Washington in the movie "American Gangster" says he plans to sue New York city for $25 million..
Frank Lucas Jr., 38, claims he is suing the city because police used unnecessary force when unjustly arresting him on Staten Island in March, the New York Post reported Wednesday.
"I have no desire to be 'American Gangster Jr.,'" Lucas said.
Lucas Jr. was charged with fifth degree misdemeanor marijuana possession, a small crime compared to his father's 1960s and 1970s underground domination of the Harlem drug world, the Post reported.
Attorney Salvatore Strazzullo argues Lucas was victimized by police because of his race, because he was pulled over while driving with his white manager Gene Ragusa. Police reportedly charged Lucas after finding a bag with marijuana residue in Ragusa's vehicle.
Lucas and Ragusa were jailed for two nights before entering guilty pleas under the agreement that charges would be dropped if they exhibited good behavior for a year, the report said.
