Mexico drug wars claim over 200

CIUDAD DE JUAREZ, Mexico, April 16 (UPI) -- An ongoing turf war among drug gangs in the Mexican border town of Ciudad de Juarez has left more than 200 people dead, police officials said.

The number of killings is more than twice the number killed in the same town in 2007, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

The increase in violence in Mexican border towns has prompted President Felipe Calderon to send thousands of troops to the cities to combat growing drug violence.

"Neither the municipal government, nor the state government, is capable of taking on organized crime," Juarez Mayor Jose Reyes Ferriz said.
