LOS ANGELES, April 16 (UPI) -- A Southern California man is claiming he was suffering from an epileptic seizure when he strangled his girlfriend in 2005.
Arthur Bonner, 35, of Hawthorne says he doesn't remember anything about the incident that left Angel Dews dead and Bonner under arrest for murder.
Bonner was on trial Wednesday in a Los Angeles County courtroom in what prosecutors say is a clear case of domestic violence and murder.
The Los Angeles Times said the epilepsy defense has been used in the past in various cases, including that of Jack Ruby, the man who killed presidential assassin Lee Harvey Oswald.
Experts in the disorder say violence during seizures is rare and takes the form of random body movements. Others, however, say people in throes of a seizure or the immediate aftermath can lash out at people who may be trying to restrain them.
