LOUSIVILLE, Ky., April 16 (UPI) -- The family of a girl whose feet were severed by Six Flags amusement park ride in Kentucky warned people Wednesday of the dangers they believe still exist there.
"As another summer gets close, with the end of the school year closing, one which our daughter had taken away from her, we know families and schools will be planning their events," the family of 14-year-old Kaitlyn Lasitter said in a statement issued to WKLY-TV in Louisville.
"Had we known as parents then what we have witnessed now, we certainly would not have allowed our child to go this park. We only want everyone to understand our goal is to open the eyes of a community that has been so loving and generous to our family."
The family also released photos of the cable that snapped last summer and injured the teenager as she rode the Superman Tower of Power at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom.
The Lasitters are suing the amusement park for negligence, claiming the ride's cables were not properly maintained, the TV station reported.
