ST. JOSEPH, Mo., April 16 (UPI) -- A YouTube video of a beating at a Missouri high school shows the incident may have been more serious than previously thought, a school official says.

Superintendent Don Lawrence of Savannah High School in northwest Missouri said the 30-second video showing a larger teen punching a smaller one in the gym locker room appears much more severe than what officials were originally told, the St. Joseph News-Press reported Wednesday.

"I think that the issues with our incident have expanded beyond fight issues," Lawrence said. "There's now this issue where kids are getting some kind of psychological benefit from posting these things on the Internet."

The video was removed from the YouTube site Tuesday after it had been viewed more than 1,000 times.

Administrators are now trying to determine who took the video and placed it on the Internet.
