EDMONTON, Alberta, April 14 (UPI) -- Homicide detectives in Edmonton, Alberta, were asking for witnesses Monday in the fatal stabbing of a school bus driver taking people home from a pub crawl.
Alan Cumming, 38, died of his injuries early Saturday after parking his bus by his home in an area known to be frequented by crack cocaine users, the Edmonton Sun reported.
Homicide Detective Mark Anstey said the victim apparently was mugged and stabbed as he approached his second-floor apartment. He said it's likely Cumming passed out briefly and then called 911 but wasn't able to give much of a description of the attack.
Anstey asked for anyone with information to come forward. He said the victim wasn't a criminal and worked hard at two jobs.
"That's why we've gone to the newspaper for help on this one," the detective said.
Cumming was recently separated from his wife, Donna Cumming, who is also a school bus driver by day and designated sober driver at night. Donna Cummings told the Sun drivers shuttling university students to pubs could make as much as $300 in tips on a good night.
