Bushes, Cheneys release 2007 tax returns

WASHINGTON, April 12 (UPI) -- U.S. President George Bush and first lady Laura Bush, and Vice President Dick Cheney and Lynne Cheney released their 2007 tax returns, the White House said.

The Bushes had $923,807 in adjusted gross income, with $719,274 reported taxable income. The first couple paid $221,635 in federal income taxes, The Washington Post reported Saturday.

The Bushes made charitable donations totaling $165,660, including to the Crawford (Texas) Volunteer Fire Department, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Malaria No More Fund, Martha's Table and St. John's Church.

The Cheneys, meanwhile, had $3.04 million in adjusted gross income, which includes Lynne Cheney's book royalties and her American Enterprise Institute salary.

The couple had $2,528,068 in reported taxable income. They owed $602,651 in federal income tax.

The couple's income includes the vice president's $212,208 government salary, the vice president's $32,500 pension benefit, which he receives as a former director of Union Pacific, and Lynne Cheney's $32,000 pension benefit, which she receives as a former director of Reader's Digest Association

In 2007, the Cheneys donated $166,547 to charity, the White House said.
