Aides: Kilpatrick's budget remains simple

DETROIT, April 12 (UPI) -- Aides to Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick say the embattled city leader has not included any significant spending increases in his annual budget.

Deputy Mayor Anthony Adams said Kilpatrick's proposed budget remains simple and low on increased spending because the administration was able to make structural changes, The Detroit News reported Saturday.

Adams said the lack of budgetary changes should give city hall officials time to concentrate on Kilpatrick's proposed $300 million economic stimulus package for the city.

"All the heavy lifting has been done," Adams said.

The Detroit City Council called for Kilpatrick's resignation last month by a 7-1 vote after he was the target of infidelity and perjury allegations.

Council Member Kwame Kenyatta has even said he will boycott the mayor's appearance before the council next Monday as he presents his budget plan, The Detroit News said.
