Doctor admits role in terror plot

LONDON, April 11 (UPI) -- The brother of a Muslim doctor who died last year in an attempt to bomb Glasgow Airport was sentenced Friday to 18 months in a British prison.

Dr. Sabeel Ahmed pleaded guilty to failing to give information to police after his brother's death, The Times of London reported.

Ahmed received an e-mail from his brother, Dr. Kafeel Ahmed, two days before the failed bombings at the airport and at London nightclubs. The e-mail told Ahmed how to frustrate investigators.

"This is a project I was working on for some time now," Kafeel said. "Everything else was a lie and I hope you can forgive me for being such a good liar. It was necessary, just so that you know."

Because Ahmed, a doctor with the National Health Service in Wales, has spent almost a year in prison since his arrest last June, he will be released and deported to India immediately.

After the failed nightclub bombings, Kafeel Ahmed, who had worked at a hospital outside Glasgow, and another man drove an SUV loaded with propane toward the terminal. No one was killed, but Kafeel suffered massive burns and died in August.
