Conjoined Kenya twins share faulty heart

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 11 (UPI) -- Doctors at the Kenyatta National Hospital say 7-day-old conjoined Kenyan twins share a faulty heart and probably other organs as well.

"In such situations, survival will be determined by the number of organs they share," said Dr James Munene, a pediatric cardiovascular surgeon in the team treating the babies.

"If they share the liver, it will become very difficult to keep both of them alive."

The twins, who were flown to Nairobi from Mombasa, were born last Sunday.
