Prosecutor wants Kilpatrick's bond changed

DETROIT, April 9 (UPI) -- Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has filed a motion to modify Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's bond to limit his travel, the mayor's lawyer said.

The Detroit Free Press reported Wednesday that the prosecutor introduced the motion after Kilpatrick and his wife traveled to Dallas last weekend to meet with mega-church preacher Bishop T.D. Jakes.

Judge Paula Humphries will hear the bail motion on Friday, the newspaper reported.

James Thomas, one of the attorneys representing the mayor, said Worthy wants Kilpatrick to file a motion for a hearing every time he wishes to travel out of state.

"It would hamper the mayor from doing his job," Thomas said. "I think this is just another attempt by the prosecutor to grab a Friday headline," he added.

Kilpatrick is facing perjury, obstruction and other charges relating to his testimony in a police whistle-blower trial last year.
