STATE COLLEGE, Pa., April 7 (UPI) -- A storm system moving from the Rockies brought another round of severe thunderstorms to the U.S. central Plains states Monday.

Many of the areas in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi visited by thunderstorms dumping from 3- to 8 inches of rain last week will be affected by the storms, which could produce large hail, damaging winds and an isolated tornado, AccuWeather.com reported.

Forecasters said they expect a second storm to form over the Plains by midweek, sparking an outbreak of severe storms across the mid-Mississippi and Ohio valleys Thursday.

As weekend rains fell in the south, portions northern Minnesota and the eastern parts of the Dakotas were socked by heavy, wet snow. Amounts ranged from 1- to 2 feet.

While the Plains and Midwest will be hit by thunderstorms, areas in the Southeast will experience quieter conditions after rough weekend weather, reported AccuWeather.com, based in State College, Pa.

Weather over the Northeast and mid-Atlantic will be calm during the next few days, forecasters said. Meanwhile low clouds, patchy drizzle and winds off the Atlantic Ocean infused cooler than normal temperatures from New York through Washington Monday before a warming trend was expected to move in Tuesday.
