Allison Palmer, spokeswoman for District Attorney Steve Lupton, told The Salt Lake Tribune that officials continued to work Sunday emptying the YFZ Ranch, founded in 2004 by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Prompted by accusations of physical abuse to a 16-year-old girl, authorities late Thursday began raiding the ranch. Police reportedly are trying to locate Dale Barlow, 50, who is suspected of fathering the girl's child. Officials have not said whether she was found.
About 200 females and youths have been removed from the site so far, 18 of whom are females taken into state custody, the newspaper said. Foster caregivers have been set for the 18 girls and temporary housing plans are being set for others.
Shannon Price of the Diversity Foundation arrived in Texas Sunday to educate officials about the sect members' culture in an effort to avoid inappropriate interactions, the newspaper said.
