INDIANAPOLIS, April 5 (UPI) -- The widow of assassinated U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy was on hand this week in Indianapolis to relive one of her husband's most historical moments.
After hearing an audio recording of Kennedy announcing the assassination of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., Ethel Kennedy and her son Max offered praise to those marking the 40th anniversary of King's death, The Indianapolis Star reported Saturday.
"Thank you all for inviting Max and me here tonight to celebrate with you the life of a man of peace who is still with us and continues to inspire us," Kennedy's widow said Friday.
Max Kennedy, who was only a 3-year-old when King was fatally shot in 1968, said his father was warned not to make his scheduled speech after he learned of King's death.
He said his father ignored those warnings and ultimately made the speech which was being remembered at Indianapolis Public School 27.
"I think of that moment as an iconic moment in American history," Max told the assembled crowd.
