LANSING, Mich., April 5 (UPI) -- Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean says he is committed to seating delegates from Michigan and Florida at the party convention.

Dean, who met with state party leaders from both states this week, said the DNC and the states will need to reach a compromise agreement from candidates Sens. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and Barack Obama, D-Ill., The Hill reported.

Michigan and Florida were stripped of their delegates after the states held their presidential primaries ahead of DNC rules.

Clinton, who won in both states, has said either the vote should be honored or a do-over primary should be held, while Obama wants to find a way to split the delegates between the candidates, the newspaper said.

Dean said previously that the Florida delegates would be seated. He met Friday with Michigan party officials.

"We are united in our commitment to doing everything we can to ensure that a Michigan delegation is seated in Denver this summer," Dean and party leaders said in a statement. "While there may be differences of opinion in how we get there, we will continue to work together to ensure that a Michigan delegation is seated and that the logistics are in place for a Michigan delegation in Denver."
