Family offers reward for missing Marine

ESCONDIDO, Calif., April 4 (UPI) -- A New York family has offered a $12,000 reward for information leading to the whereabouts of a recently married Marine last seen Monday.

Lance Cpl. Margaret McMahon was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California. In January, she married George Reid, a Marine private at Miramar Air Force Base, about an hour's drive from Pendleton.

Katheryn McMahon of Sag Harbor on Long Island told Newsday she is worried because Reid has not responded to e-mails, although someone has been accessing his MySpace account.

"As time goes on, as this young man accesses his computer and knows we're all trying to reach him, he knows we are crazed just wanting to know the girl is OK," she said.

While the Marines at the moment consider both Margaret McMahon and her husband to be on unauthorized absence, Navy investigators are working with police in Escondido, the San Diego Union Tribune reported. Police Lt. Bob Benton said that Katheryn McMahon filed a missing persons report Wednesday, and detectives are investigating because "it's unusual for Marines not to show up for work."
