Stepfather of kidnapped girl arrested

LONDON, April 2 (UPI) -- Police sources in Britain say the stepfather of kidnapped schoolgirl Shannon Matthews has been arrested on suspicion of possessing child pornography.

The arrest of Craig Meehan came as police were investigating the 9-year-old's kidnapping and imprisonment at the home of the Meehan's uncle, Michael Donovan, The Times of London reported Wednesday.

Police haven't formally identified Meehan, 22, as the man arrested on pornography charges, but sources say it was Meehan's second-hand computer that was confiscated as part of the investigation of the girl's disappearance, The Times said.

Shannon Matthews was found March 14 at the home of Donovan after being missing for nearly a month.

Donovan is in custody charged with kidnapping and imprisonment.

It is believed the images on Meehan's computer didn't involve any of the Matthews children and there has been no suggestion that Meehan is implicated in the girl's disappearance, the Times says.
