ORLANDO, Fla., April 2 (UPI) -- U.S. attorneys asked a federal judge in Florida for more time before a preliminary hearing for a man caught allegedly carrying bomb parts in checked luggage.

During Wednesday's hearing in U.S. District Court, government officials said they needed additional time to prepare for the preliminary hearing and a bond hearing for Kevin Brown, 32, the Jamaican national charged with carrying components to make a pipe bomb in luggage when he tried to board a flight at the Orlando International Airport, CNN reported.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Thursday.

Brown, being held without bond, appeared in court shackled but not in handcuffs. He is living in the United States with a valid green card, CNN said.

He was planning to board an Air Jamaica flight to Montego Bay, allegedly carrying pipe bomb parts, including metal pipes, end caps, metal ball bearings, batteries, two containers of an unknown liquid and bomb-making literature, Fox News said.

Transportation Security Administration officials said Brown was acting suspiciously, prompting a search of his luggage.
