MIAMI, Alaska, April 2 (UPI) -- Director R. David Paulison of the Federal Emergency Management Agency told reporters in Florida that he would resign before a change in U.S. administrations.
The former Miami-Dade fire chief told The Miami Herald and other Florida publications that there was no firm date for his resignation; however, it would definitely come before a new president is sworn in.
"I'll stay as long as I can," Paulison said. "I'm here for now, but sometime between now and Jan. 20, I'll be leaving."
The Herald said Paulison told journalists at the National Hurricane Conference that running FEMA was a "tough job" that placed a great deal of stress on family.
Paulison took over FEMA in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina and focused his efforts on filling staff vacancies and restoring morale.
