Bomb parts found in luggage at airport

ORLANDO, Fla., April 1 (UPI) -- A Jamaican man attempting to board a plane at Orlando (Fla.) International Airport had pipe bomb components in his luggage, law enforcement officials said.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation identified the man taken into custody as Kevin Brown, about 32, a Jamaican national who appeared to be in the United States legally, Fox News reported.

Brown was charged by the FBI with carrying a weapon or explosive on an aircraft. He is to have an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Orlando Wednesday, authorities said.

The suspect was planning to board an Air Jamaica flight to Montego Bay. He allegedly was carrying pipe bomb components, including metal pipes, end caps, metal ball bearings, batteries, two containers of an unknown liquid and bomb-making literature, Fox News said. Transportation Security Administration officials said Brown had been behaving suspiciously, prompting a search of his luggage.

"We're responding as if it's the real deal," FBI spokesman David Couvertier told the Sentinel. "It's a serious situation until we decide otherwise."

Check-in locations for Air Jamaica and Virgin Atlantic were evacuated.
