LUANDA, Angola, April 1 (UPI) -- The death toll from the weekend collapse of a seven-story police headquarters in Luanda, Angola, had reached 21 people, officials said.
Eugenio Laborinho, coordinator of Civil Protection Services, said Monday rescuers had pulled out 147 people trapped in the debris of the building, which housed the National Criminal Investigation Department, the Angola News Agency reported. Officials said it was believed there were 181 people in the building when it collapsed Saturday, including 145 inmates.
More bodies were expected to be found as the recovery operation continued, the BBC reported. The cause of the collapse had not been determined, though there had been reports the building had been deteriorating, the British network said.
The building's seventh floor had been added only recently and a large power generator topped the building, the BBC said.
