Report: 46 migrants OK to stay in U.S.

HOLLYWOOD, Fla., March 30 (UPI) -- Forty-six illegal Cuban immigrants who arrived on the shores of Hollywood, Fla., Saturday are being permitted to stay in the country, officials said.

The immigrants were smuggled to the United States from the coastal Cuban city of Sagua la Grande, U.S. Border Patrol Agent Lazaro Guzman said.

Sagua la Grande has recently turned into a popular jump-off point for Cubans fleeing Cuba, The Miami Herald reported.

The immigrants reportedly were being held by authorities and will be moved to the Miami-Dade Health Clinic after processing and questioning.

Immigrants who set foot on U.S. shores are allowed to stay in the country under the U.S.-Cuba migration "wet-foot, dry-foot" rule. Immigrants who fail to reach land are typically sent back to their countries.
