MOSCOW, March 28 (UPI) -- Russian police have identified the killer of investigative journalist Anna Politkovskaya, prosecutors said Friday.

Prosecutors did not release the name but said police are searching for the man, Itar-Tass reported.

Politkovskaya, a bitter opponent of Russian policy in Chechnya, was shot outside her Moscow apartment in October 2006. Lt. Col. Pavel Ryaguzov, an officer in the Federal Security Service, usually known by the initials FSB, has been formally charged with participating in the killing.

The prosecutor said that more than 60 people have been questioned about the case.

A military court in Moscow extended the case to Sept. 7.
