ARLINGTON, Va., March 28 (UPI) -- A new ad by the presumptive Republican U.S. presidential candidate showcases Arizona Sen. John McCain's wartime experience.
The TV spot, titled "624787," which is McCain's military serial number, shows footage of Navy Lt. Cmdr. McCain in a hospital bed as a POW in the Vietnam War.
"John McCain: The American president Americans have been waiting for," the announcer says.
The ad will run in New Mexico, ahead of the state's June 3 Republican primary, the McCain campaign said.
The ad comes as McCain begins his "Service to America" tour, which starts Monday in Mississippi.
His campaign said McCain will use the tour to introduce himself to the nation "through a series of speeches and visits that trace the life of a man indebted to his nation, humbled by the opportunity to serve his country, honored by his family's love and deeply moved by his fellow Americans' courage and sacrifice."
