Giuliani reported mulling run for governor

NEW YORK, March 28 (UPI) -- Rudy Giuliani, the former New York mayor and one-time Republican presidential hopeful, reportedly is considering a run for governor.

A top Giuliani adviser told the New York Post Giuliani would run this fall if a special election becomes necessary. That could happen if New York Gov. David Paterson resigns.

So far, Giuliani has had little luck in his bids for higher office. In 2000, he dropped out of a bid for to challenge Hillary Clinton for the U.S. Senate because of a combination of medical and personal problems -- cancer and a nasty divorce and remarriage. His presidential candidacy failed to gain traction with Republican primary voters.

Paterson succeeded Gov. Eliot Spitzer and announced immediately that he had his wife had both had affairs during a bad period in their marriage. He has also acknowledged long-ago drug use.

However, Paterson said he has no more revelations about his personal life, and the ones he has made so far appear to have done little to damage his reputation.
