Water park probed for chlorine poisoning

ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, March 27 (UPI) -- A water park in Russia is being investigated following the overexposure to chlorine of 25 children, a prosecution spokesman said.

The youngsters were hospitalized after spending time at Waterville park in St. Petersburg. The Russian information agency Novosti said they were in "moderate to satisfactory" condition Thursday.

Prosecutors said investigators are trying to determine whether the park violated sanitary standards, causing multiple cases of poisoning, an offense that could lead to a three-year jail sentence. The park is also being investigated for failing to properly comply with safety regulations.

About 75 people complained of ailments including skin irritation after spending time at the park Wednesday, the report said.

Park authorities said only one individual needed treatment after complaining of eye irritation and "water tests carried out every three hours had shown no breaches of regulations."
