MEMPHIS, March 26 (UPI) -- U.S. officials acting on a tip arrested 34 suspected illegal immigrants who were building a U.S. Air National Guard installation in Memphis.

The Mexican men were all employed by the contractors and subcontractors working on the $215 million facility at Memphis International Airport.

Immigration agents told The Commercial Appeal, a Memphis newspaper, that Wednesday's raid came after the Air Force informed them that they suspected the construction crew included a number of illegal workers.

The new base for the Tennessee 164th Airlift Wing is the largest construction project undertaken by the Tennessee guard.
