MIAMI, March 26 (UPI) -- Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Special Olympics founder and a member of one of the most prominent U.S. political families, was hospitalized in Miami.

Shriver, 86, is a sister of Sen. Edward ''Ted'' Kennedy and the late President John F. Kennedy and Sen. Robert Kennedy, and the mother-in-law of California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The Miami Herald reported Wednesday that Shriver is recovering from pneumonia at University of Miami Hospital.

''She's had challenging health issues for a while now,'' her son, Anthony, said.

UM president Donna Shalala, a longtime Shriver friend and former U.S. secretary of Health and Human Services, spent an hour at the hospital Saturday with Eunice, husband Sargent Shriver, 92, and their family, the newspaper said.
