Earthquake measuring 6.2 rattles Chile

SANTIAGO, Chile, March 24 (UPI) -- A 6.2 magnitude earthquake shook northern Chile Monday, though no one was injured nor were there reports of any damage in the rural region.

There were, however, reports of power failures after the temblor, La Nacion reported online.

It was the second recorded quake to hit Chile this month. A small earthquake rattled northern Chile in early March.

Chile is often struck with minor quakes. Last month, tremors measuring 6.3 magnitude shook parts of the country near the northern city of Iquique.

The nation's, and possibly the world's, strongest earthquake of the 20th century hit Valdivia, Chile, in May 1960, registering 9.5.
