DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla., March 24 (UPI) -- Two suburban Chicago men are free on bond after being charged by Florida police with detonating dynamite at a Daytona Beach Shores hotel as a prank.
Timothy Becktel, 21, of La Grange and Michael Bolt, 21, of La Grange Park are accused in an explosion that caused some $2,000 in damage to the Oceanside Inn while on spring break last week, the Chicago Tribune reported Monday.
A stick of dynamite detonated on a second floor sun deck of the hotel shattered three hurricane-proof windows and sent glass, metal and other debris into the air, police said.
Becktel, Bolt and a third man, Christopher Romano of Dayton, Ohio, were seen on a surveillance video running in opposite directions after the blast, the Tribune reported.
Police Sgt. Michael Fowler of Daytona Beach Shores said Bolt and Becktel served as lookouts while Romano detonated the dynamite.
All three are charged with discharging a destructive device, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
